Amphora Commission at Turner Contemporary Gallery

September 27, 2017

KDC Artistic Director Kamala Devam is collaborating with a talented team of artists on a new Arts Council England-supported project called Amphora. Amphora is lead by composer Helen Caddick who has created an original 15 minute score inspired by the works of famous Dada artist Jean Arp, whose legendary works are being exhibited at Turner Contemporary Gallery in Margate, UK from Oct 2017 – Jan 2018. Helen has commissioned Devam to create a solo piece of dance using improvisation and chance to her score in collaboration with costume designer Martina Trottmann and filmmaker Philip Miller. Phil is making a short film about the artists’ creative process bringing Amphora to life and will be exhibited on loop in the Turner Contemporary from Nov 2017 – Jan 2018.

Devam will perform her choreography to Helen’s score played live by the orchestral ensemble CantiaQuorum at Turner Contemporary in Margate. Catch these free, public shows on Saturday, Oct 14th at 2pm & 3:30pm.
